Painting Challenge

So I decided I needed a kick in the butt to get my painting going again.  I have decided to issue myself a challenge, to finish up a 35 point list (not that it is a list I would ever run normally) by the end of the Dark Secrets league (4 weeks from yesterday, Sunday September 9th).

Why do this challenge?  There is no prize, except finishing with painted models.  Really, what it boils down to is that I have a desire to get everything painted, and I do best with lists and targeted “by when” dates.  This allows me to have a goal.  Lock & Load was a huge impetus, but my painting has flagged substantially since then.  This will also give me the publicity and public shaming if I don’t do it, which can be a huge impetus on it’s own.

I want to make something clear – the whole point of the challenge is to focus on what you think you can realistically commit to getting done (even if it is only one model) in the time allotted, and then attempting to get that done in that time allotted.  I am choosing to do a 35 point list – but if you have school, full time job, family, are a slow painter, etc, you might not be willing to commit to that much.  Which is fine – it is more about giving people an opportunity to set goals and to keep those goals.

I offered up the challenge to others, and two other brave souls have stepped up to it.  Both smash and squelch have agreed to give it a try.  The lists, and current status of the painting, are below the fold.

The list I am planning on doing is the following:

  • Supreme Aptimus Zaal [+5]
    • Kovaas [included]
    • Cyclops Shama [5]
    • Aptimus Marketh [3]
  • Ancestral Guardian [3]
  • Ancestral Guardian [3]
  • Bloodrunner Master Tormentor [2] (Painted September 8th)
  • Bloodrunner Master Tormentor [2] (In Progress)
  • 6 Cataphract Arcuarii [9]
  • Extoller Soulward[2] (Painted September 8th)
  • Hakaar The Destroyer [4]
  • Orin Midwinter, Rogue Inquisitor [2]
  • Saxon Orrik[2]
  • Tyrant Commander and Standard[3] (Painted September 8th)
  • 1 Cataphract Cetratus [?] (leftover from my unit of Cetratus, finishing it up with this set)

I will be marking the ones that are already painted (I already did some of it, as noted up there, this weekend.  Saturday specifically).

Others have agreed to join in as well.  Squelch’s goal is the following:

  • Absylonia
    • Ravagore with Extra Kit Parts all painted
    • Ravagore with Extra Kit Parts all painted
    • Shredder (In Progress)
    • Shredder (In Progress)
    • Shredder (In Progress)
    • Shredder (In Progress)
    • Naga Nightlurker
  • Shepherd
  • Shepherd
  • Forsaken

And smash has the following list:

  • Hierarch Severius [+6]
    • Blessing of Vengeance [7]
    • Reckoner [8]
    • Sanctifier [9]
    • Hierophant [2]
  • 6 Choir of Menoth [3]
  • 10 Holy Zealots [6] (In Progress)
    • Monolith Bearer [2]
  • Reclaimer [2]
  • Covenant of Menoth [2]

Good luck to both of you – I am looking forward to more painted models on the table! :)

If anyone else is interested in joining in the challenge, please feel free to drop a message either to the mailing list for gallatin valley, or on this post with your models you are going to do.  Happy painting!

  1. Thought i would pop in and post up some stuff to paint…. Not going to do the league because of work timing issues, but i do have a friendly “ninja fight” challenge with Blake to do that i would like to get my Garryth list painted mostly for. So, throwing in my hat so to speak. Don’t have the list finalized yet , but will throw up my modles as i finish them till i do.
